LEED - Certification of sustainable buildings

LEED certification is the world's most widely used green building rating system and a symbol of sustainability leadership. It provides a framework for healthy, efficient and cost-effective green buildings and has become an internationally recognised standard for assessing and promoting buildings and retrofits that meet high standards of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

Available for all building types, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was developed in 1993 in the United States by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council).

To be certified, a project must meet the specific requirements of each of the categories LEED evaluates for buildings: sustainable sites, water, energy and air efficiency, materials and resources, indoor environment quality, innovation and design.

LEED score and rating

The LEED certification categories are divided into four levels that make up the certificate, so that 4 levels of certification can be achieved:

LEED Certificate: for a rating between 40 and 49 points.
LEED Silver: for ratings between 50 and 59 points.
Gold (LEED Gold): is obtained with ratings between 60 and 79 points.
LEED Platinum: for ratings of 80 points or more.

WELL - Building Sustainability Certification

WELL certification is the first building assessment tool focused on the well-being and health of its occupants. Based on performance rather than prescription, it prioritises user comfort and analyses the relationship between health and the built environment in which we live and work.

WELL certification was developed in the United States by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) in 2013. It has subsequently evolved into what is now known as WELL v2, which was launched in 2020.
