We provide guidance to ensure safety during maintenance operations at your facilities
What is LoToTo?
Any maintenance operation involving facilities or machinery that uses electricity or hazardous fluids poses a risk not only to workers but also to the facility itself, the environment, and even the general public.
The LoToTo (Lock-out, Tag-out, Try-out) system for locking, tagging, and verification controls the sources and key points of energy and hazardous fluid lockout to prevent them from being accidentally activated due to human error or suddenly, thereby ensuring the safety of maintenance and production workers.
The LoToTo system applies to any maintenance, repair, or cleaning activity and to all types of energy (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, kinetic, and potential; pressurized equipment, etc.) and all fluids (steam, oil, chemicals, etc.), including those that do not appear to be hazardous, such as drinking water.
In general, LoToTo can be applied in all industrial facilities that work with hazardous fluids, at high pressures (P>10 bar) and/or high temperatures (T>70 °C), and where accidents may occur due to risks associated with energy sources or fluids.

The 3 Pillars of HOT LoToTo
(HOT: Human, Organizational, Technical)

Implementing a comprehensive LOTO safety process involves the following 10 steps:
- Establishing the process in organizational, human, and technical terms.
- Assess the organization and LOTO practices.
- Development of a general procedure and necessary documents.
- Training personnel in risk analysis for energy and fluid safety (production staff, maintenance technicians, management).
- Equipment analysis to secure energy and fluids through lockout
- Development of LOTO sheets for machines, identifying key lockout points.
- Definition and implementation of safety devices (lockout and tagout accessories, padlocks, tags, LOTO boxes, etc.).
- Development of specific operating procedures (SOPs) that include LOTO safety.
- Training on implementation for stakeholders or other interested parties.
- Periodic audits of process implementation.
Our technicians will advise you and support you throughout the entire process or during the specific phase(s) you require.

HOT LoToTo
and the new EN 17975:2025 standard
The standard EN 17975:2025, "Maintenance. Control of energy and fluid risks in maintenance activities. Guidance," which was developed with the participation of experts from the Apave Group, establishes guidelines for controlling risks related to energy and fluids during maintenance work.
This is a voluntary standard, but it constitutes a technical standard of best practices for standardizing LOTO risk control in maintenance operations in Europe.
Our HOT LoToTo solution incorporates the requirements of EN 17975:2025 into our organizational consulting, training, and technical support services. This means that:
- We take all energy sources into account and, therefore, address the specific challenge of managing multiple simultaneous risks.
- We apply the solution to any maintenance intervention (preventive, corrective, construction, etc.) and even to routine maintenance (lubrication, cleaning, adjustment, etc.).
- The standard covers aspects beyond the LoT-o or Lo-To-To (Lock-Out, Tag-Out, Try-Out) approach, as it includes organizational, technical, and human dimensions (skills and behaviors). In this way, it integrates with maintenance processes and safety management.
