The Energy Saving Certificates (ESC) system allows companies to obtain financial compensation for the savings derived from the implementation of energy efficiency measures.

The external control of the energy certificate (EEC) is an independent verification of the validity of the data and results presented in an energy performance certificate, especially in new buildings and in cases of energy rehabilitation. This control ensures the reliability of the certificate and the correct application of the regulations.

The Energy Efficiency Certificate of a building or part of it is a document that describes the energy characteristics of the building: thermal envelope, thermal and lighting installations, normal operating and occupancy conditions, thermal and lighting comfort conditions, quality of indoor air, etc., which determine its energy consumption, and, therefore, its Energy Efficiency Rating.

ISO 50001 is based on continual improvement, a management system model found in other well-known standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. This model makes it easier for an organisation to integrate energy management into its overall efforts to improve its quality and environmental management.

ISO 50001 provides a framework of requirements for organisations to :

- develop a policy for more efficient energy use

- Establish goals and objectives to implement this policy

- Use data to better understand energy use problems and make decisions to solve them.

- Measure the results

- Review the effectiveness of the policy, and

- Continuously improve energy management.
