When users fill up at a service station, they need to be assured that the fuel pumps and other products, such as AdBlue or LPG, are in perfect condition and that the quantities they dispense are accurate and reliable. Evolving European standards for regulating pollutant emissions have boosted the development of engines that can run on alternative fuels to actively reduce exhaust gases and pollutants. LPG is a widespread alternative fuel, as is natural gas (CNG and LNG) or vegetable oil for trucks. On the other hand, all diesel trucks and light-duty vehicles manufactured since October 2006 are equipped with a catalytic reduction system using AdBlue, an aqueous solution that converts pollutants into water vapour. 

Therefore, filling stations must be equipped with the appropriate pumps to dispense both conventional and new fuels and comply with the relevant standards, including the verification of the pumps.

The verification of tanker meters is regulated and requires the control of each meter to ensure the stability of its measurement.
The challenges we face are to ensure the security of data during fuel transactions and to guarantee the reliability of the data through measurement stability and accuracy in accordance with the regulations in force.

The stability, grip, cornering behaviour and braking performance of a vehicle's tyres must be optimal to ensure maximum safety. In addition, sufficiently inflated tyres can reduce fuel consumption, which is important in view of rising fuel costs. To be sure that the tyre pressure is correct, it should be checked regularly. The gauges we use for this purpose, both analogue and digital, should be checked for errors related to drift, environment, power supply, addition of components to the output loop and other process changes.

Non-automatic weighing instruments range from precision balances, used in laboratories to measure a few grams, to weighbridges that can measure several tons (for weighing trucks, for example). Weighing instruments are present everywhere in our daily lives: how else could we weigh our vegetables in the supermarket?
An inspection of these instruments makes it possible to limit the :

• - Safety risk: not having a device that indicates the right value can lead to changes in the manufacturing process or to accidents if the pressure levels are too high.
• - Economic risk: making a measurement error can lead to cost errors with strong repercussions.

Like any measuring instrument, weighing instruments must be checked at regular intervals to ensure that their measurements remain reliable and correct.

The control of health risks is based, to a large extent, on the respect of temperatures, hot or cold, which limit the proliferation of potentially pathogenic micro-organisms. It is therefore essential to be able to rely on reliable measuring instruments and to check their reliability regularly.

This regulatory verification of recording instruments must be subject to metrological control to ensure that they retain their metrological characteristics.
