Verification of tyre pressure gauges

The stability, grip, cornering behaviour and braking performance of a vehicle's tyres must be optimal to ensure maximum safety. In addition, sufficiently inflated tyres can reduce fuel consumption, which is important in view of rising fuel costs. To be sure that the tyre pressure is correct, it should be checked regularly. The gauges we use for this purpose, both analogue and digital, should be checked for errors related to drift, environment, power supply, addition of components to the output loop and other process changes.

The verification of analog pressure gauges is governed by Order ICT/155/2020, of February 7, as amended by Order ITU/1475/2024, of December 17, which regulates the metrological control of pressure gauges for public use for tires of motor vehicles in its phases of verification after repair or modification and periodic verification.The following is a list of the metrological control of public use tire pressure gauges for motor vehicles in the phases of verification after repair or modification and periodic verification.

Which are the equipment to be verified?

The metrological control of the State on pressure gauges refers to the phase of instruments in service and includes both the verification after repair or modification and the periodic verification of the same.

Analog: mechanical pressure gauges for measuring the tire pressure of motor vehicles.
Electronic: pressure gauges equipped totally or partially with electronic components and with or without presetting devices, intended to measure the pressure of motor vehicle tires.

Apave is accredited by ENAC No. 6/EI653 to carry out periodic verification and after repair or modification of the following pressure gauges as in-service instruments:

Electronic pressure gauges intended to measure the tire pressure of motor vehicles up to 20 bar.
Analog pressure gauges for public use for motor vehicle tires up to 20 bar.

Verification of fuel, AdBlue and LPG dispensers

When users fill up at a service station, they need to be assured that the fuel pumps and other products, such as AdBlue or LPG, are in perfect condition and that the quantities they dispense are accurate and reliable. Evolving European standards for regulating pollutant emissions have boosted the development of engines that can run on alternative fuels to actively reduce exhaust gases and pollutants.
