Goals

The objectives of the training TELCO II Working at Height Course :

Be familiar with the risks and preventive measures involved in working at height, as well as work procedures and the use of PPE.

Lesson 1. Introduction
• Presentation of the Training Centre's characteristics.
• Introduction of students and teacher.
• Presentation of course objectives.

Lesson 2. Regulations and legislation
• Safety and risk prevention in work at height: basic safety concepts and general guidelines.
• PRL Law and subsidiary regulations. RD 2177/2004.
• Description of the role of the Prevention Officer.
• Functions and responsibilities of the Prevention Resource.

Lesson 3. Physics of falling
• Definitions: Impact force, Fall factor, Free fall distance, Pendulum effect.
• Application to work situations.

• Lesson 4. Personal protective equipment
• Definition of PPE. Categories.
• RD 773/1997 and RD 1407/92
• UNE-EN standards. Definition and objectives.
• General information: Information leaflet, labelling, individual identification.
• Periodic inspection, daily inspection, maintenance and conservation standards.
• Description of the most common equipment (harness, helmet, lanyard with shock absorber, positioning lanyard, fall arrest devices, etc.)

Lesson 5. Fall protection systems
• Description and types of fall arrest systems in accordance with EN 363 (fall arrest systems and fall prevention systems).

Lesson 6. Anchorage devices
• Description and types of anchorage devices in accordance with EN 795:2012 and CEN TS 16415: 2012.

Lesson 7. Manual lifting of loads
• Safety guidelines for safe load lifting. Description of automatic locking systems for ascent and descent.
• Description of pulleys with self-locking systems.

Lesson 8. Responding to an accident
• Description of the accident response protocol (PAS).

Lesson 9. Personal protective equipment
• Description of specific equipment and its different uses (types of harness, helmet, types)
• specific to lanyards with shock absorbers, positioning lanyards
• positioning lanyards, fall arrest devices for temporary and fixed lines, auxiliary equipment, etc.).

• Free fall distance applied to the assembly and use of anchorage devices.
• Installation of mobile facilities for the use of temporary anchor lines.
• Use of slings on structural anchors.
• Figure-eight knot and double figure-eight knot. Applications.
• Assembly of temporary horizontal lines for use on roofs.
• Content globalisation exercises: Assembly of fall arrest systems and restrictive systems on temporary horizontal anchor lines.
• Use of permanent horizontal anchor lines.

Lesson 12. Risk identification
• Identification of fall risks on towers, masts, roofs and flat roofs. Case studies.
• Identification of associated risks: proximity to electrical hazards and non-ionising radiation, proximity to doors, openings, work signage, etc.

Lesson 13. Manual lifting of loads
• Safety guidelines for safe load lifting. Description of automatic locking systems for ascent and descent.
• Concept of fixed pulleys and mobile pulleys.
• Concept of mechanical advantage.
• Guide rope.
• Assembly of simple systems for lifting moderate loads.
• Changes of direction.

Lesson 14. Working on scaffolding
• Suspension trauma. Fundamentals and consequences for the injured person.
• Prevention and action guidelines in the event of an injured person suspended from protective equipment.

For who ?

Any worker in the telecommunications sector exposed to the risk of falling from height who carries out work on antenna towers, masts and unprotected roofs.
Prerequisites
Ability to read and write Spanish.
